Salento in 2 days: the itinerary we recommend at reception
A perfect weekend in Salento: Cocora Valley, town, coffee and trout, with real schedules and the tips we give our guests.

Two days in Salento go much further than you'd think — if you plan them well. This is the plan we repeat almost daily at reception when someone walks in, backpack still on, and asks: "what should I do if I only have the weekend?"
Day 1: the town, slowly
Afternoon — Calle Real. Drop your bag and walk Carrera 6, the most photogenic street in the Coffee Region: colorful balconies, artisan workshops and cafés that smell of freshly roasted beans. If you want to know exactly where to sit down, we wrote a whole guide to the best cafés in Salento.
At sunset — Alto de la Cruz viewpoint. At the end of Calle Real, about 250 steps take you up to the viewpoint with the best view over the QuindĂo river valley. Climb up half an hour before sunset and thank us later.
Evening — trout and tejo. The must-have dinner is trucha con patacón (trout with fried plantain), the town's signature dish. And if you still have energy left, finish with a round of tejo: gunpowder, aim, and guaranteed laughter. Ask us at reception where to play without beginner's embarrassment.
Day 2: the wax palms
Get up early. The Willys jeeps to the Cocora Valley leave from the main square — one block from the hostel — starting at 6:30 am. You have two options: the full 5–6 hour loop or the short version straight into the palm forest. We wrote the complete Cocora guide with routes, prices and our favorite viewpoints.
Back in town in the afternoon, you can still fit in a coffee tour at a nearby farm — ask us about the tours we arrange with neighboring coffee growers — or, if your legs have already voted against it, plan B is unbeatable: the garden jacuzzi and a freshly brewed cup of QuindĂo coffee.
