Salento in 5 days: the complete itinerary, no rushing

Five days in Salento and its surroundings: Cocora, coffee, the Santa Rita waterfall, La Carbonera and time to live the town properly.

Travelers sharing time in the hostel garden in Salento

In two days you see Salento; in five you understand it. This is the itinerary we put together for guests who want the can't-miss sights plus the best part of the Coffee Region: the slow rhythm, the people, and the corners the tour buses never reach.

Day 1: arrival and town

The perfect landing afternoon: Calle Real, the climb to the Alto de la Cruz viewpoint at sunset, trout with fried plantain for dinner and, if you're up for it, a round of tejo. It's the same first day as our 2-day itinerary, and there's no reason to change it.

Day 2: the full Cocora Valley

Early start, Willys jeep from the square, and the full 5–6 hour loop: hanging bridges, the climb to Finca La Montaña and the descent among 60-meter wax palms. Here's our honest Cocora guide with all the details. Back in town: jacuzzi. You'll have earned it.

Day 3: coffee in the morning, waterfall in the afternoon

Give the morning to a coffee farm: walk the plantation, understand the processing and drink the freshest cup of your life. We work with neighboring coffee growers and can help you book the tour that fits your style. In the afternoon, a water plan: the Santa Rita waterfall in BoquĂa, with its cold natural pools and almost nobody around.

Day 4: La Carbonera, the palms without the crowds

The area's best-kept secret: La Carbonera, a forest with far more wax palms than Cocora and a fraction of its visitors. You get there by jeep along the old road to Toche — half a day of dirt track, fog and landscapes you won't believe. Ask at reception and we'll quote the tour for you.

Day 5: the slow goodbye

No rushing. A long breakfast in the garden, one last round of the town's cafés, some coffee beans to take home, and off you go. If you're continuing north, check our guide on how to get from Salento to Jardín by bus — it's the scenic route.

The plan at a glance

Day Main plan Effort level
1 Town and viewpoint Easy
2 Full Cocora Valley loop Demanding
3 Coffee + Santa Rita waterfall Moderate
4 La Carbonera Easy (by jeep)
5 Cafés and farewell Zero
